about

Written by G. Wilcox

lyrics

I remember red-brick cottages and Garage doors that were all made
Of corrugated, flaky-painted steel
Sweets that they don't make no more, and Pubs that have all been closed down
I remember, days at the Swimming Pool
Crispy Pancakes for our tea, and Crackerjack on the T.V.
Days we thought would never, ever end
Wishing half our lives away in the garden where we used to play
I wonder of the cat's still buried underneath the shed?

I want to go, back to our home town
I want to see if our old house is standing strong
Or if they pulled it down and built the town around

Jockey was my dream career, but height and waistline defeated me
And an allergy to Horses - the final nail
But still I practiced for all I was worth
I built fences in the garden dirt
The bruises would take days and days to heal
Planting bulbs and building dens
In our rooms with calligraphy pens
Chas and Dave were high in the top ten
You were a BMX or a racer child - I had a tomahawk but I didn't mind
Things just seemed much simpler and much easier back then

I want to go, back to our home town
I want to see if our old house is standing strong
Or if they pulled it down and built the town around

The days were longer
The sky was bluer then
We were innocent.......

But that was then and this is now
We've got bills to pay and we own a house
Those days are all buried in History
And though I wouldn't change what we've got now
I often wonder, if somehow
We could go back there one more time for sentimentality

I want to go, back to our home town
I want to see if our old house is standing strong
Or if they pulled it down and built the town around
I want to go, back to our home town
I want to see if our old house is standing strong
Or if they pulled it down and built the town around.
